Revenue Model:
Our business model is based on commission right now. It's free to every user to sign up and use the platform. The photographer defines the photo price and discount and we charge 20% on every purchase. We have around 6% cost with the gateway what makes us around 15% gross profit per transaction. We plan to implement a freemium plan where photographers can pay a monthly fee to have premium features.
Competitors:
moments.surf is the brazillian competitor. They are running very slow, Don't have a web platform, are working only with mobile apps. The platform is not easy to use by the photographers. THey don't support different currencies. Prices are always in US Dolar surfterra.com - this is a competitor from Lisbon - Portugal. They work with video and photos by the photographers cannot change the photo/video price and this way the platform doesn't really adapt well for each reality since the photo price is very different depending on the wave conditions and the reality of the location. They also don't support different currencies. It's always euro. Not very popular.Surfmappers is more allow photographers to configure the photo prices and configure discounts for packages. It also allow the user to work with currency US Dolar and BRL

  • Problem that we are solving: We are solving problems for two types of clients: Surfers and Surf photographers. In the current world surf, photographers make money by selling photos to the surfers. However, the process does not happen on the beach because of many reasons, the photo is still in the camera, not easy to access the computer or the internet, the surfer is surfing, etc. Because of this, the purchase process happens outside the beach when the surfer and photographer try to meet up, or the purchase can happen through the internet. They talk by any instant message chat, usually by Facebook or WhatsApp and the process happen. The surfer has to transfer money to the photographer bank account, if it's from different bank its a huge problem, they need to trust each other, there is no safety or guaranty in the process. Also, the photographer needs to deal with each surfer when selling the photos manually: - Resize the picture to a small size and add watermark at first to send to the surfer so he can decide if he wants to buy or not - Negotiating price/discount for each surfer - checking the bank account for payment - searching the photo in the hard-drive - Since it's high resolution the file is big and usually doesn't fit on email and need to use some cloud service to send.We highlight the fact that it is a digital product within a new industry (surf industry) that has been growing fast in the last decade. There are 23 million surfers in the world surfing in 152 countries.
  • My solution: Surfmappers is a platform to connect surfers and surf photographers. It's a marketplace to help surf photographer to sell their photos. With Surfmappers photographers can upload their surf photos and the platform will help to identify and notify the surfer and the purchase can be done the whole process online. This way the photographer can focus on taking photos while Surfmappers cares about selling and delivering, What Surfmappers does: - Allow the photographer to create a portfolio online and show their work/contact - Surfmappers works as a social network to connect the photographer to the surfers, usually, these people have a relationship in real life, they go surf together. Tools like friends list, message, tag helps the photographers to develop their communities through surf photography - It's a marketplace to implement the whole purchase process - It's a backup tool to photographers - Automatically resize and add watermark to protect the photograph work and only show high-resolution photos when they are purchased - Makes possible to surfers pay foreign photographers online easily. This is important in this market because lots of the photos are taken when the surfers are traveling abroad to surf (surf trips). So currently the only way to pay for this photos is with money directly to the photographer.
